STATE SENATOR PAUL R. FEENEY SWORN-IN FOR 4TH TERM IN THE MASSACHUSETTS SENATE

(Boston–1/24/2023) State Senator Paul R. Feeney has been sworn-in to the 193rd General Court of Massachusetts for his fourth term as State Senator of the Bristol and Norfolk State Senate District. Senator Feeney was first elected to the State Senate following his special election victory in October 2017 at the age of 39.

“The opportunity to represent the hard-working people of the Bristol and Norfolk Senate District is the honor of a lifetime and a duty I carry with great reverence,” said Senator Paul R. Feeney (D-Foxborough). “As we embark on this new legislative session, I vow to commit myself anew to the people, values, and common goals of our district to maximize the best results possible for our communities. Our district is my moral compass, and I am eternally grateful for the trust you have placed in me to deliver for you.”

Senator Feeney was proud to join his democratic colleagues in voting to elect Senator Karen P. Spilka to her third term as Senate President of the Massachusetts State Senate. Additionally, Senator Feeney was pleased to welcome his newly elected colleagues to the Senate floor for the first time: Senator Robyn K. Kennedy representing the First Worcester District, Senator Paul W. Mark representing the Berkshire, Hampden, Franklin and Hampshire District, Senator Liz Miranda representing the Second Suffolk District, Senator Jacob R. Oliveira representing the Hampden, Hampshire and Worcester District, Senator Pavel M. Payano representing the First Essex District. As a body, all 40 Senators swore their oath of office and affirmed their commitment to representing the people of Massachusetts.

With the start of the 193rd General Court, the 2021 redistricting plan also goes into effect. The newly drawn Bristol & Norfolk State Senate District includes the communities of Canton, Sharon, Foxborough, Mansfield, Norton, Attleboro, and North Attleborough. This proposal, while making some communities whole and adding other municipalities, means that the Bristol & Norfolk District no longer includes the communities of Walpole, Medfield, Seekonk, and Rehoboth.

“Losing communities that have made up the unique character of our district since my election to the State Senate is a bittersweet transition. It has been an honor representing the towns of Walpole, Medfield, Seekonk and Rehoboth, and I look forward to serving the newly added communities of Canton, North Attleborough, plus remaining precincts in Attleboro and Sharon, with the same care and compassion. My door is always open, and I hope to be a resource for all residents of the Bristol and Norfolk District,” added Senator Feeney.

Senator Feeney has been recognized for his work on the issue of homelessness and has become a champion of permanent supportive housing for chronically homeless individuals. Paul is a leading advocate in the Senate on worker's rights, workplace safety, job creation, gender equity and diversity in the workplace, and the rebuilding of a vibrant middle-class. As the author of over 70 diverse bills filed in the last session, Senator Feeney is an outspoken and effective leader in the Massachusetts Senate.  A blue-collar telecommunications technician by trade for over 20 years prior to his service in the Senate, Senator Feeney served as the legislative director, spokesperson and chief steward of his local union in Boston, MA. Paul is an avid Boston sports fan and lives in Foxborough with his wife Laura, a licensed family childcare provider.
